Since the introduction of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in 2023, European Patent Attorneys with an additional litigation qualification are entitled to represent their clients independently before the UPC – without the need to instruct a solicitor or barrister. By obtaining the European Patent Litigation Certificate (EPLC), you will acquire exactly this qualification.
The certificate programme is designed to run over two semesters (August 2025 to May 2026) and comprises 120 hours of study. Be aware, that all courses are in the German Language. An overview of the content:
At the end of the programme, you will sit a four-hour written examination and take part in an oral group examination. The examinations are offered either in person or online and are conducted exclusively in German.
The certificate programme is aimed at European Patent Attorneys who wish to gain representation rights before the UPC.
